PPP fights to retake Michelle Steel's congressional seat
EAST LAKEWOOD, CALIF. — Patriot Precinct Project (PPP) volunteers walked the streets and knocked on doors last weekend to turn out conservative voters in a neighborhood Democrats didn't expect.

PPP volunteers distributed hundreds of East Lakewood Conservative Guides to conservative leaning but low-propensity voters, using voter data and an online app provided by the Los Angeles County Republican Party (LAGOP). The app guides PPP volunteers to the homes where such voters reside in the hopes that a friendly pitch along with a helpful guide will motivate the erstwhile low-propensity voter to cast his or her ballot.
The area was chosen for PPP activism due to the tossup nature of the congressional race.
District 45 - a tossup race?
Democrats figured they could turn a tossup congressional district dark blue via last year's Prop 50.
As part of the redistricting wars of 2025, California Democrats added two longtime liberal strongholds to congressional district 45. Michelle Steel, who is now the American ambassador to South Korea, represented the district for four years only to lose in 2024 to Democrat Derek Tran by little more than 600 votes.
Former Cerritos mayor and 28-year police officer Chuong Vo won the district's Republican primary this time around. His campaign features online Facebook reels and constant door knocking, as well as meet-and-greet events, by a dedicated band of volunteers.
However, Vo's campaign has not canvassed East Lakewood, one of the areas Democrats gerrymandered into his district in an attempt to fortify it.
The district mostly encompasses northern Orange County but encompasses parts of southeast Los Angeles County in the Cerritos area. Prop 50 added southern Norwalk and East Lakewood to the district, both of which feature a large Democrat voter registration advantage.
Thus, the PPP aimed to help the Vo campaign, which has sent out a mailer to East Lakewood homes.
Conservative allies join the fight
Conservative allies not came out with the PPP for to canvass.
Volunteers included one from young Republican circles, as well as Hispanic Republican activists. Gabriella, who serves on the LAGOP Central Committee for Assembly District 64 even came out three times for canvassing!
Regular PPP volunteers who worked with the organization in the 2024 campaigns also pounded the pavement. PPP President Rachel Gunther, who also serves on the LAGOP Central Committee for Assembly District 69, helped walk the streets and lift everyone's spirits. MaryAnn, who regularly volunteers with the Vo campaign and the Cerritos Republican Club, also assisted the effort.
